  Notes	Volgens zijn biografie vertrokken zij op 1 november 1847 uit Rotterdam. Ze voeren op een Amerikaanse tweemaster. Ze waren 72 dagen onderweg, en ondervonden veel hinder van stormen. Toen ze aankwamen in New York zijn ze meteen doorgereisd naar Buffalo, waar de familie in de buurt van Hamburg, Erie County op een boerderij heeft gewoond. Vier jaar later trokken ze door naar Sheboygan County. Ze kochten 40 acre zwaar bebosd gebied in Holland Township, sectie 26. De vader bouwde daar eerst een hut van boomstammen voor hij de familie ophaalde uit Sheboygan. Hij heeft later meer grond gekocht en had in 1894 een boerderij van 130 acres.
