    On November 21, 1847, the propeller Phoenix perished on Lake Michigan, a couple of miles off the shore from Sheboygan. About 250 people died and only 43 people survived. Most of the passengers were Dutch immigrants.

      Volgens Wilterdink is hij vertrokken vanaf Voskuil samen met Hendrik Jan Voskuil, geb. 1814, Janna Willemina Voskuil, geb. 1836 en Tony Voskuil, geb. 1843, Willem Christiaan Voskuil, geb. 1840.

      Derk Antonij werd op 26 april 1846 aangenomen als lidmaat van de Christelijke Afgescheiden Gemeente te Winterswijk en is in 1847 naar Amerika vertrokken.
