    • Hij was soldaat tijdens de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog. Hij diende bij de 112th New York Infanterie. Bij Fort Fisher, North Carolina, liep hij een nekwond op, waarna hij werd opgenomen in het ziekenhuis in Fort Monroe, Virginia. Hier overleed hij op 7 februari 1865 aan tetanus. Hij is begraven in Hampton National Cemetery, Hampton, Virginia.
